Camp-In
The goal of the Camp-In program is to inspire children to discover the excitement of science through fun, hands-on activities in an informal setting. It is hoped that Camp-In will provide a positive environment that stimulates exploration and inquiry, and promotes the idea that science in a part of our daily lives. The 2012 workshops will cover the following topics, briefly described below, though the material is subject to change as the workshops develop.
Children and their adult chaperones will experience three hands-on science workshops that will have them examining chemical reactions, chemical changes, and lots in between!
Be amazed as acids turn red and bases turn blue, because by the end of this workshop, you’ll be an expert on reactions, too! Get your goggles and gloves ready to find out what makes everyday reactions extraordinary.
From super-sized polymers to microscopic atoms, in this workshop, campers will use their senses to explore matter of all shapes and sizes and learn why everything really does matter.
What’s the difference between melting ice and burning a match? What do baking a cake and exploding fireworks have in common? Campers will try a variety of experiments to discover the difference between physical and chemical changes.
