Circus Day Features Sword Swallower and Fire Eater Jugglers, stilt-walkers show their circus skills on Saturday, October 22 Here’s one circus performer who can’t clown around: Philip DePalo will amaze and entertain as he spews fire 20 feet into the sky and swallows over two feet of cold steel during Circus Day at the Maryland Science Center on Saturday, October 22, 2005. DePalo, an international master of sword swallowing, fire eating, juggling, magic, and other circus tricks, will perform at 1:00 and 3:00 PM on the atrium stage of the Maryland Science Center. DePalo’s performances highlight “Circus Day,” a one-day festival celebrating the opening of Circus! Science Under the Big Top at the Maryland Science Center. Parents and children can take a free juggling lesson and test their skills in the “Juggle Zone,” watch performances from clowns, stilt-walkers, and balloon artists, and experience being a circus performer inside the Circus! exhibit. Circus! explores the principles of science that make the circus fun, and gives visitors the chance to feel the excitement of walking the tightrope, attempting aerial stunts on the trapeze, performing feats of strength, or bending like the contortionist. Circus Day events and performances are with admission. Entrance to Circus! Science Under the Big Top requires a ticket which may be purchased along with regular Maryland Science Center admission. The Maryland Science Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is visited by more than 550,000 people each year. Popular exhibits include: Dinosaur Mysteries which features more than a dozen full-size dinosaurs and interactive paleontology activities, an exploration of the day in the life of the human body in Your Body: The Inside Story, and add…dozens of interactive experiments in Newton’s Alley. Other popular attractions in the museum include the Kids Room, the five-story MIE Properties IMAX Theater, and the world-famous Davis Planetarium.
