IMAX Film Explores World's Deadliest River
Mystery of the Nile chronicles first successful expedition from source to sea; opens October 3

The journey along the Nile River, from its source in the highlands of Ethiopia to its delta in the Mediterranean Sea is so dangerous that no explorer has been able to navigate its entire length in a single expedition–until now. Beginning Tuesday, October 3, 2006 Maryland Science Center visitors can join the first successful trek down the entirety of the mighty and mythic river in the new IMAX film Mystery of the Nile.

Viewers will feel like they are traveling alongside explorers Pasquale Scaturro and Gordon Brown on their epic adventure down 3,260 miles of river in the world's most remote regions. Audiences will experience the feelings of rafting through treacherous rapids in the scorching heat of the high desert canyons, face the fear of encountering deadly crocodiles and hippos, and survive tense meetings with armed bandits and militias.

Mystery of the Nile is more than just an adventure through harsh terrain; it's also an exploration of rich cultural and environmental treasures. From the 12th century Christian churches carved from rock in Ethiopia, to the black pyramids of Meroe, to the great pyramids of the Pharaohs, Mystery of the Nile guides viewers through ancient civilizations and modern cities. Audiences will witness the environmental impact and the revered power of the Nile's annual flood waters in Egypt that make it "the River of Life," and discover the unexpected and rugged beauty of Sudan.

Mystery of the Nile will be shown daily on the five-story screen of the Maryland Science Center's St. John Properties IMAX Theater. Admission can be purchased as part of admission to the Maryland Science Center.

The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. For more information and tickets, visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-Hour Information Line at 410-685-5225.
