AUGUST 15 2006 For more information: Todd Scott - Himmelrich, Inc. Maryland Science Center Offers Home School Event The Maryland Science Center will host two weeks of special programs, demonstrations, and group activities for home school students and their parents September 5-8, and September 12-15, 2006. The Home School Event was created to allow parents to provide enriched personnel curriculums and interactive, hands-on science experiences for their students . "The Maryland Science Center recognizes that science education is not just being delivered in classrooms, but also in living rooms and kitchens," said Director of Education Pete Yancone. "Making science center resources available to home school students and their parents is a part of our mission to supplement science educations – no matter where it's studied." The Maryland Science Center's core experience including Dinosaur Mysteries, Your Body: The Inside Story, Newton's Alley and Our Place in Space will be available to home schoolers free of charge. Additional enrichment activities, such as topic-specific IMAX films and planetarium programs, are also available. Lab experiments and activities including a simple DNA extraction where students learn about the human body by working with the DNA from wheat germ, or the robotics workshop in SpaceLink where children design and build their own robotic vehicles, require a small fee and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission to the Maryland Science Center exhibits during the Home School Event is free to students and adult chaperones, however advance registration is required. A fee of $4.50 is charged for programs and presentations, and $6.50 for IMAX features. A list of complete programs and descriptions is available at www.marylandsciencecenter.org/educators/homeschool.html. The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. For more information visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-Hour Information Line at 410-685-5225.
