JULY 29 2005 For more information: Tim McKenna - Himmelrich, Inc. Experiment Outside During Backyard Science Days Have fun, soak up the hot sun, and participate in cool science experiments you can perform right outside your door. On Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14, 2005, the Maryland Science Center celebrates Backyard Science Days from Noon until 4:00 pm each day. Backyard Science Days is free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. Is a carrot faster than a zucchini? Find out when contestants line up their creations for Vegetable Racing. Participants will have fun learning about gravity, inertia and aerodynamics as they build their very own cars out of vegetables and then race to find out which design is the fastest. From a Super-sonic Pencil (using compressed gas to shoot a pencil through wood) to the Electric Pickle (not a dance, but a glowing pickle), the Maryland Science Center’s Traveling Science Program performers will conduct mind-boggling experiments and mind-expanding demonstrations using large-scale props. Visitors can create natural art to take home by placing leaves, shells, or other objects on photosensitive paper that allows the rays of the Sun to make shadowgrams. The Maryland Science Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is visited by more than 550,000 people each year. Popular exhibits include: Dinosaur Mysteries which features more than a dozen full-size dinosaurs and interactive paleontology activities, an exploration of the day in the life of the human body in Your Body: The Inside Story, and add…dozens of interactive experiments in Newton’s Alley. Other popular attractions in the museum include the Kids Room, the five-story MIE Properties IMAX Theater, and the world-famous Davis Planetarium. The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
