Big Machine Day Celebrates Everyday Giants On Saturday, June 11, 2005, the Maryland Science Center will be surrounded by hulking metal monsters and other massive mechanical objects, and visitors will be able to explore them during “Big Machine Day.” Cranes, fire trucks, street cleaners, vacuum trucks, a fire boat, and even a zamboni are among the featured machines that will be displayed on Inner Harbor promenade. Inside the Maryland Science Center, visitors will learn about the important functions and the science behind these everyday giants, by participating in activities about mechanics and hydraulics. Related programming in the Kids Room allows children under the age of eight to experience get the dirt on Big Machines through crafts, puzzles, games, and stories. The Maryland Science Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is visited by more than 550,000 people each year. Popular exhibits include: Dinosaur Mysteries which features more than a dozen full-size dinosaurs and interactive paleontology activities, an exploration of the day in the life of the human body in Your Body: The Inside Story, and add…dozens of interactive experiments in Newton’s Alley. Other popular attractions in the museum include the Kids Room, the five-story MIE Properties IMAX Theater, and the world-famous Davis Planetarium.
