MAY 24 2006 For more information: Todd Scott - Himmelrich, Inc. East Coast Premiere of "Rockwell's America!" Offers First Taste of Summer Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, and the Maryland Science Center at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, is celebrating in a big way with the East Coast premiere of "Rockwell's America!" This 10,000 square foot family attraction, opening Saturday, May 27, 2006, celebrates American ingenuity and innovation through dozens of immersive interactive environments based on Norman Rockwell's most famous Saturday Evening Post covers. It is the largest Norman Rockwell touring exhibition ever created. Rockwell's America! chronicles changing times in America while allowing guests to explore over 20 theatrical educational environments featuring life-sized, three-dimensional depictions of Rockwell's most beloved characters. The exhibit also features over 100 original covers from the Saturday Evening Post. Guests will recognize many of Rockwell's famous baseball paintings including "Gee Thanks, Brooks," the classic image of Baltimore Oriole legend Brooks Robinson, and relish the opportunity to literally "peep through the knothole in the fence" once more to watch the big game. The presentation at the Maryland Science Center also allows guests to witness the evolution of technology and the changing American lifestyles that coincided with the artist's career. Children and families explore Main Street USA where they can turn the dial and listen to the sounds of an antique radio, use old-fashioned telephones to call other stores and shops around town, and learn how the invention of the television changed the world forever. Guests will also have the opportunity to board a World War II era jeep, hop in the back of an authentic Model T and meet "Rosie the Riveter," an iconic character who personifies the important role women play in America's work force. The exhibition culminates with Rockwell's "Four Freedom," his moving work in support of Civil Rights and an awe-inspiring tribute gallery featuring all of Rockwell's 322 Saturday Evening Post covers. An experience not to be missed, Rockwell's America! will run from Saturday, May 27, 2006 through January 2007 in the Legg Mason Gallery on level two of the Maryland Science Center.
