Maryland Science Center Celebrates "Pi Day"

On Wednesday, March 14, 2007 the Maryland Science Center will celebrate a slice of plane geometry with just plain fun. Pi Day will honor the mathematical constant–3.14 –with special activities and free fruit pies for the first 314 visitors.

Museum guests and visiting school groups will help create a paper Pi Chain by placing each successive digit of the infinite number as a link in a chain that will stretch across the atrium. Visitors can also sign a petition to the U.S. Postmaster General to officially name the zip code of Savannah, Georgia (31415) the official zip code of Pi. Other activities include a contest to see who can recite the most decimal places of Pi from memory.

To extend the celebration of Pi, the Maryland Science Center and the Tasty Baking Company have partnered to offer a free Tastycake snack pie to the first 314 visitors on Pi Day.

Pi Day activities are free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center and open to the public.

The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. For information and tickets, visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-Hour Information Line at 410-685-5225, TDD: 410-962-0223.
