Most Friday evenings through March 26, the Maryland Science Center is just $8.00 for admission to its exhibit halls, planetarium, Observatory and IMAX Theater beginning at 5:00PM. Enjoy an evening of family fun for a little bit of money!

Imagination & Creation Exploration

This activity is specially designed for children ages 5 through 8. Each week come and face a new I.C.E. challenge based on our monthly theme. Our theme for Our theme for February is chemistry. Grab a beaker and a pair of goggles as we stir up some supersaturated solutions and mix up a marvelous concoction or two. Imagination & Creation Exploration activities are funded by the LEGO Children’s Fund

Starball
Friday, February 19 - Sunday, February 21
Imagine that the night sky has been taken away. Everything you learned of mythology and the constellations is a fading memory. Starball combines live theatre, improvisation, original music, cosmological inquiry and the exploration of human consciousness into an entertaining performance that challenges us to deepen our understanding of the universe. Starball is included in the cost of admission and does not require an additional ticket or advance registration.

New Traveling Exhibt: GPS Adventures

The Hunt is on! Explore the Maryland Science Center’s latest traveling exhibition GPS Adventures where you can get lost in this life-sized maze exhibition, introducing visitors to cutting-edge Global Positioning Systems (GPS) through Geocaching–a family friendly treasure hunting game.

Solar System Educator Workshop
Saturday, February 20: 10:00AM-3:00PM
Spend the day learning about space science and how scientists are studying our Solar System and beyond. Also, learn about NASA’s latest space exploration missions and initiatives, including the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s New Horizons mission to Pluto. The workshop also includes fun, hands-on activities that you can use in your classroom, and a $100 stipend! As a special treat, workshop attendees will sit-in on a program in the Davis Planetarium called Starball at 2:00PM. Starball is a unique production that is part astronomy lesson, part musical theater and part improv night. Registration is required, please click here for more information about this workshop. Pluto–Formerly Known as a Planet–Fest
Saturday, February 20: Noon-4:00 PM
Why isn’t Pluto a planet anymore? How do you feel about that? Come to the Maryland Science Center to learn all the great things about Pluto (planet or not)! Answer scavenger hunt questions about Pluto and win a prize. Make some spacy goodies like recreating Pluto’s surface and crafting a Pluto/Charon moon system. Guess what your weight would be on different planets and pose for some stellar photo ops. Before you go, cast your vote and sign the petition to reinstate Pluto as a planet! All activities free with paid admission. Made possible through funding from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

Antarctica Educator Workshop
Saturday, February 27: 8:45AM-3:30PM
Hear from Antarctica researcher Lori Koenig from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. See work completed as part of NSF’s Antarctic Artist & Writers Program and demonstrations of polar related classroom activities. A screening of the IMAX film Antarctica, morning snacks and lunch are included. As well as activities, books and resources for your classroom, plus a $100 stipend. Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland 3D featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter will be coming to the Maryland Science Center. Take a trip back in time with Alice as she visits the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her whimsical friends and an amazing journey. The all-star cast includes Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter.

Everyone loves Pi and March 14th is the day to show it. Join us for delicious treats and partake in a pie eating contest if you think you can handle it! Show off your Pi memorization skills and see who can recite the most numbers! Find out how long you can hula hoop (they are circles, after all) and enjoy pi-themed music throughout the day.

Spring into the Equinox

Celebrate the first day of Spring at the Maryland Science Center and learn all about our Sun! We will have special hands-on activities and giveaways in SpaceLink. Catch a show "Live from the Sun", at noon in the Davis Planetarium, and our rooftop observatory will be open from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, weather permitting, to safely view our Sun through a telescope!

Fridays After Five Takes a Vacation

The popular price diving promotion will make its last appearance for the season. Be sure to come down and enjoy three floors of please touch exhibits, a star-studded show in the Davis Planetarium, and a larger than life film on our five-story IMAX screen all for the low cost of $8! Fridays After Five will return in the Fall on 2010, but will be going on summer vacation until then.
