Friday Night Stargazing in the Observatory
Every Friday: 7:00-10:30pm (weather permitting)
Venture out to our urban rooftop Observatory to view the night sky as our staff help you find planets and constellations. The Observatory is open every Friday night, weather permitting. Stargazing is free and open to the public, admission to the Science Center is not required. Please phone 410.545.2999 before your visit to check on viewing conditions.

RC Car and 'Copter Day
Saturday, May 5: Noon-4pm
Start your engines and join us at the Maryland Science Center for a day of radio controlled car racing and flight demonstrations. RC experts from HobbyTown USA will be onsite leading the flight demonstrations and putting you in control of the cars. All activities are free with paid admission, completely free for members.

Sungazing Saturdays
Saturdays: 1-4pm (weather permitting)
Safely look at the Sun and its features–such as sunspots and prominences–through a special set of filters on our telescope. The Observatory is open to museum visitors every Saturday, weather permitting, and admission is included in general Science Center admission. College Savings Plans of Maryland Day at MSC
Saturday, May 12; 10am-6pm
College Savings Plans of Maryland and the Maryland Science Center will be offering free admission for the first 200 elementary school students, 5th grade and younger, to visit the museum. Students must visit the College Savings Plans of Maryland table located near the entrance of the Maryland Science Center to obtain their free tickets. This event is an early celebration for National 5/29 College Savings Day (May 29), an annual celebration to raise awareness about the importance of saving for college and encourage families to consider investing in 529 plans to reduce their child’s future reliance on student loans.

Summer of Even More Irresponsible Science
Memorial Day to Labor Day
Bigger bangs. More contraptions. Splashier splats. It’s The Summer of Even More Irresponsible Science and it’s here Memorial Day to Labor Day. Like last summer but even better, come watch us blow things up, create crazy chemistry, drop stuff off the roof, build things and destroy them and all the other things they always tell you not to try at home. Mixology 101–The ABC's: Alcohol, Bacon, Cocktails
Thursday, May 31: 7-9pm
The Maryland Science Center’s popular science of adult beverages series focuses on craft cocktails in May with a presentation in Mixology by John Reusing, Owner/Operator of Bad Decisions in Fells Point. The event will feature a discussion of the methods and strategies for making balanced cocktails using nontraditional ingredients—in this case, bacon. The presentation will also include a demonstration showing how to craft the perfect cocktail. Participants will be guided through different hands on stations to craft their own. Tickets are required for this event and are $45 per person, $40 for members. Please call 410-545-5980 to reserve yours today, 21+ only.

Transit of Venus
Tuesday, June 5; 6-8pm
The Observatory will be open, weather permitting, for the public to observe the astronomical rarity of the Transit of Venus. Venus will pass directly in front of the Sun and through proper filters, the planet will appear as a small black dot. The transit continues through sunset (8:30pm), but we’ll lose sight of Venus behind a building at 8:00pm.

Carnival Science

Circus Science rules the day with lots of hands on exploration of what it takes to control the chaos of a three-ring extravaganza. Traditional carnival activities will be set up throughout the building where you can play games, win prizes and create crafts to take home. This event is free with paid admission, completely free for members.

The Maryland Science Center will be closed on Saturday, June 23 in order to prepare the building for Solstice, the annual fundraiser.

35th Annual Solstice
Saturday, June 23; 8pm - Midnight
Solstice, the Maryland Science Center's annual fundraiser is held on the Saturday closest to the Summer Solstice each year. Proceeds from the event help to underwrite free admission for Maryland school children during the 2012-2013 school year. Experience a moveable feast, cocktails and dancing with music provided by Eli "Paperboy" Reed and the True Loves. A ticket is required for this event.

The Maryland Science Center is changing its hours of operation for the summer. Sunday-Thursday: 10am-6pm; Friday and Saturday: 10am-8pm.
